Review

The 313 Somerset nursing room is clean and spacious. It is situated right next to the Fat Cat arcade at level 5 of the mall. We find that it is really great to be situated right next to the food court.

Interior of the Nursing Room

First of all, it’s thoughtful that daddies can sit on the bench in the nursing room. There is a family room as well for older kids, and 3 individual breastfeeding rooms that are lockable. The width of the nursing room is also quite spacious.

Diaper changing station

The diaper changing station has ample space to put our bags on and comes complete with a padded diaper changing mat, a sink with soap and paper towels. There is also a hot and cold water dispenser next to the paper towels.

Breastfeeding room

Each of the breastfeeding rooms has a small side table which is useful to place bags on it, and there are two power sockets for breastmilk expression. We are glad that there is a cushioned armchair provided for each room.

During our short time there, an employee of the mall came in to fill her water bottle.

Verdict

Conveniently located, clean and great design overall.

Marina Square Nursing Room

Where it is

  • Multiple locations at all levels

Features

  • The entire family room is lockable
  • Padded diaper changing mat
  • Hot/cold water dispenser
  • No tissue to dry hands
  • Sink and soap
  • No bottle warmer
  • Multiple nursing rooms across each level
  • One power socket in nursing room

Review

The Marina Square nursing room has multiple locations across each level. Here’s the map showing the locations of the nursing rooms.

Locations of Nursing Rooms

While it was convenient that each zone (blue, green, yellow, and red) had its own nursing room, each nursing room was also very small with just enough space for a stroller, a sink, a diaper changing mat, and a small seat cushion. Thankfully, the seat cushion can sit two adults, so that’s a boon for daddies.

Interestingly, there were some nursing rooms with hot and cold water dispensers, while others didn’t have it.

Although each nursing room can be locked, somehow there were so many occasions where employees of the mall came to try to open the nursing room to fill their water bottles.

Verdict

Be prepared for people trying to open the door or knocking on the door just to fill their water bottles.

Jewel Nursing Room

Where it is

  • Level B2 lift lobby F, outside restrooms
  • Level 2 lift lobby C, outside restrooms
  • Level 2 lift lobby H, outside restrooms
  • Level 3 lift lobby H, outside restrooms
  • Level 4 lift lobby C, outside restrooms

Features

  • No locked access
  • Padded diaper changing mat with safety clip
  • Hot/cold water dispenser
  • Paper towels to dry hands
  • Sink and soap
  • No bottle warmer
  • 2 nursing rooms (except Level 4 nursing room)
  • Two power sockets in nursing room

Review

The Jewel nursing room is the number 1 favourite among families with young children. There were nursing rooms on most floors, and was one of the most comfortable nursing rooms in Singapore.

The diaper changing area was kept really clean, and we really liked the vertical layout of the diaper changing mat for its ease of diaper changing. The safety clips were a plus as well. Facilities for washing and drying hands were also adequate. Hot and cold dispenser was also available to make formula milk.

Each nursing room allowed for a stroller to be pushed in, and the side table and ledge were brilliant designs to put handphone and other small items down. Each nursing room also provided two power sockets if you need to express milk.

The Level 4 nursing rooms (near Mothercare) is like the ultimate VIP nursing room. First of all, daddies can sit outside the individual nursing rooms (finally, someone thought about the daddies). This was also the only nursing room to boast three nursing rooms instead of two.

Level 4 Nursing Room Sitting Area

Each of the three nursing rooms were also significantly larger than all the other nursing rooms. Mummy’s favourite is the “VIP room”, which not only was huge in terms of space, but also had an en suite sink and diaper changing station all within the same room!

The other nursing room had a great outdoor view. Your back is against the window, so your privacy is secured, but the outdoor view brings serenity into the nursing experience.

Level 4 Nursing Room (Outdoor View)

Verdict

Go to Level 4 nursing rooms for more room, more comfort, and feel good!

Parkway Parade Nursing Room

Where it is

  • All levels of the office lift lobby, near restrooms

Features

  • No locked access
  • Padded diaper changing mat
  • Hot/cold water dispenser
  • No tissues to dry hands
  • Sink and soap
  • No bottle warmer
  • 1 nursing room
  • One power socket in nursing room

Review

The Parkway Parade nursing room can be rather distracting for feeding as it was right outside the restrooms, and the noise from the hand dryer can be very noisy from time to time. In addition, it was very popular with the staff working in this mall, there were people coming to refill their bottles and kettles.

It was great that the mall provided the faucet and soap to wash your hands after diaper change, but it was strange that there were no tissues provided to dry your hands.

Nursing area

The nursing room was too small to bring the stroller, with space just enough to sit and nurse your baby. There was little ventilation in the nursing room, and Charlotte was sweating a lot during feeding.

The best nursing room is at Level B1, next to Cedele and Japan Home. Here, the diaper changing area can accommodate two babies, and the nursing room was much larger. This nursing room can fit one stroller and it didn’t feel claustrophobic.

Verdict

Go to Level B1 nursing room for more room and comfort.

IKEA Tampines Nursing Room

Where it is

  • Restaurant level, near restrooms

Features

  • No locked access
  • Padded diaper changing mat
  • Hot/cold water dispenser
  • Paper towels to dry hands
  • Sink and soap
  • No bottle warmer
  • 1 nursing room (only curtain)
  • One power socket in nursing room

Review

The IKEA Tampines nursing room was extremely popular. Given that it was next to the restaurant and also on the same level as the children’s section, there were many families entering the nursing room while we were inside.

Nursing area

The nursing area was OK though, and the stroller could be inside. However, it had to be closed by drawing a curtain. Charlotte was distracted by the fox on the wall, but fortunately, the light behind the armchair could be switched off.

Furthermore, anyone can just come into the nursing room to refill their bottles, and so it might not be safe if you’re breastfeeding alone.

The diaper changing area had one padded mattress only, and so we had to wait for our turn to change the diapers. However, we loved the vertical layout of the diaper changing mat instead of the usual horizontal layout.

Verdict

Better to have your spouse stand guard at the curtain.
